What we do

Helping Link/Một Dấu Nối offers a variety of classes. We serve a diverse group of individuals including adults, seniors, clients, recent graduates, and young professionals living in the greater Seattle area. The majority of our clients are limited-income. Our efforts assist Vietnamese refugees, immigrants, and Vietnamese Americans in their effort to settle and integrate in their new country, strengthen the Vietnamese community and promote cultural harmony.

English as a Second Language(ESL)

The ESL program provides at least one native English speaker and one bilingual English and Vietnamese speaker with clients, placing an emphasis on conversation practice and social interaction. Topics will vary as we tailor lessons to match the needs of our clients. Volunteer tutors serve as facilitators to help each client reach their particular goals.

Conversational ESL
Course Length: 10 weeks
Time: Tuesday & Thursday, 6:00pm-8:00pm

  • Job application and interview
  • Schedule and daily life

Vietnamese as a Second Language(VSL)

Our VSL Program provides a thorough introduction to the Vietnamese language. Classes are specifically tailored to meet the learning objectives of the students. The duration is dictated by individual students, lasting anywhere from a minimum of 5 weeks to a maximum of 10 weeks. Opportunities to apply acquired vocabulary to real world settings are provided.

  • Cost: $200-$400 for 10- 40 hours
  • Experienced, native Vietnamese-speaking instructors
  • Low teacher–student ratio

Citizenship Classes

Our citizenship classes provide practical instruction in order to pass citizenship exams. Topics include American history and government, civics and social responsibility.

  • Course Length: 10 weeks
  • Time: Tuesday & Thursday, 6:00pm-8:00pm

Helping Link/Một Dấu Nối provides a directory of resources to clients seeking guidance in basic social service needs. These resources include but not limited to:

Computer Workshops

The Computer Workshop is a complimentary program meant to teach adult and elder clients the basic applicable computer skills necessary to advance towards job employment and increased language literacy. You will learn all the basic information needed about computer technology so that you can communicate, regulate, and present information. Our bilingual Vietnamese and English computer manual provides a comprehensive understanding of the basic computer functions and tips to becoming familiar with the computer programs. Helping Link/Một Dấu Nối will provide the essential resources and instruction to help you get started and become successful in mastering the computer skills you need.

Class Times Description
Basic Computer Wednesdays- 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Clients interested in this class learn the basics of computer use, from learning about the parts of a computer to figuring out how to operate the computer, navigate common programs, and basic iPad functions. This course is branched into two sub-tier classes operating concurrently during these times: 1. Computer Lab Instruction, 2. iPad Instruction.

Computer Lab Drop-In Hours

Times Description
Mondays – 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Use one of the computers in the computer lab and make use of the things you learned in class!
Tuesdays – 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Use one of the computers in the computer lab and make use of the things you learned in class!
Wednesdays – 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Use one of the computers in the computer lab and make use of the things you learned in class!
Thursdays – 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Use one of the computers in the computer lab and make use of the things you learned in class!


Our drop-in hours from Monday to Thursday provide services where you can receive individual assistance in any subject, including:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Internet and email
  • Internet job searching
  • Typing letters and resumes (must schedule an appointment prior to drop-in)

Service Cost

Translation services

(Covers general translation, copy-editing and quality control)

  • $0.25/word ($60 minimum per assignment
  • $60.00 per hour
  • 5-day turnaround
  • Rush fee additional 30% base rate under 48 hours
  • Rush fee additional 50% base rate under 24 hours

Proofreading services

  • Charged at 40% per word translation rate

Interpreting Services

(Does not include travel time, travel mileage,or parking and tolls)

  • $100/hour (two hour minimum)
  • 24 hour cancellation required
  • See Travel mileage and cost for additional fees

Travel mileage

  • Current IRS rates, to be covered by client

Travel cost (parking, toll, etc.)

  • To be covered by client

All translations and interpretations are done by native Vietnamese speakers living in the U.S., with extensive knowledge of both Vietnamese and American cultural expectations.
