Sparking Memories, Making New Ones at Open House

I first joined Một Dấu Nối/Helping Link because of my friend and for the opportunity it gave me to connect to the Vietnamese community. Through my experience at the Open House and with people around me, I’ve learned so much more about our community and how to expand my skills.

For example, the Open House featured spectacular performances such as the Lion Dance and the Vietnamese Hat Dance. Those performances gave me nostalgia because back in the day, before COVID-19, my family used to actively go out more and watch events like these. I remember one experience where the dragon would dance and use its mouth to take the money we held out. The dancing, music and energy all bring back memories of my culture. The speeches given were also thought-provoking—especially the one that incorporated the history of Vietnamese families’ resettlement to Washington state. Getting the chance to take part in such an amazing event and being able to spread such cheer makes me look forward to what the future holds.
